Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims First Title in 882 Days
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.
Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's defensive approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
